About us

 

We are a small dedicated team of Yacht & Small Craft Marine Surveyors serving customers in all areas of the country having both a base in the North and also a base in Chichester on the South coast. 

Lumley Marine Surveyors have produced survey reports and advice for thousands of satisfied customers. The company evolved out of a marine engineering business and Ian has over 35 years experience in this field. Ian Lumley MIIMS BSSE is the company owner and is based in the North but travels extensively to cover all areas of Great Britain and Europe.  Roger Pinder BSc.Hons GradMIIMS Dip.Mar.Sur. joined the company in 2007 opening an office on the on the South coast to help expand the business.

Jackie is the organisational key and deals with the administration of the business, together with proof reading and providing technical support with the computing side of things.

We are both experienced boat owners and have cruised extensively in home waters, Northern European Coasts, Bay of Biscay, Atlantic Coasts and the Eastern and Western Med. In our opinion a surveyor who is not an experienced boat user cannot develop the essential skills of early diagnosis of faults. Faults ultimately develop into gear failure that may compromise the safety of the vessel and of those aboard.

We have an excellent working knowledge of boats and their systems to combine with our technical backgrounds.
